Empowerment of women with disabilities

DAHW Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe e.V.

In India, women and girls with disabilities often face discrimination. In addition to the challenges associated with their disability, they suffer from deeply rooted social and cultural prejudices. Gender-based violence is widespread, and many women lack access to basic services such as health care, education or a fair legal system.

The situation is alarming:

  • Women with disabilities are at high risk of experiencing violence, whether physical, emotional or economic.
  • Traditional role models severely restrict their participation in society.
  • Access to education and health care remains out of reach for many girls and women, especially in rural areas.

Together with local partners, DAHW Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe e.V. is working in Madhya Pradesh, India, to sustainably improve the lives of around 2,350 women and girls with disabilities.
