Water Brings Hope Amid Crisis and Climate Change

arche noVa - Initiative for People in Need e.V.

For many people in northern Mali, daily life is shaped by insecurity, drought and the constant struggle to access water. In the area around Gao in particular, clean drinking water is scarce, while droughts, heavy rainfall and violence further disrupt everyday life. Many families lose their main sources of livelihood as crops fail and livestock herds are damaged.

Arche noVa is working in the Gao region to improve living conditions despite ongoing conflict and the impacts of climate change. New water points are being created and existing facilities rehabilitated, often using solarpowered pumps to ensure a reliable supply of clean drinking water. At the same time, the project supports communities in establishing vegetable gardens, provides seeds and livestock, and offers practical training in agriculture and animal husbandry.

Another key element is strengthening social cohesion: in a region marked by tension, the project creates spaces for dialogue, conflict resolution and community structures. In this way, longterm prospects emerge that help people become more resilient to climate risks and improve their access to water, food and safety.
