People with hope change the world

Vision Hope International e.V.

Yemen is currently experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. It was already the poorest country in the Arabian Peninsula. The war in the country has made the situation even worse. In addition, natural disasters are becoming more frequent as a result of climate change. 17 million people do not have enough to eat, educational and health facilities have been destroyed by targeted attacks or lack of maintenance and 80% of the population do not have a safe water supply.

Vision Hope works in this context and has been spreading hope with development and emergency aid projects for over 20 years. In 2021, for example, a reconstruction project was launched that builds a bridge from emergency aid to sustainable development across all sectors. Capacity-building training is being conducted in 8 districts across the country and people are being brought together in workshops and other formats to positively promote state-society relations. Infrastructure projects are implemented jointly: A total of 20 schools, 17 water supply systems, 8 district hospitals and 13 dams, cisterns or wells for agriculture are being built.

Asia is one of the women who is already benefiting from the project. The 50-year-old lives with her family in one of the project districts. Before the project, she used to spend up to 9 hours walking to get water. Now water is pumped to her village. This doesn't just make getting water easier - it changes the lives of the whole family: the improved water supply improves hygiene and health, the nutritional situation improves - and the time gained can be used for education and productive work. Or as Asia put it with tears in her eyes: "From the edge of desperation, streams of grace grew into every house (...). Now I can finally take a deep breath and live the remaining days of my life in peace."

Every donation to the project has a multiplier effect of ten, as 90% of the project budget is covered by institutional grants.
