Supporting disabled children

in Pakistan

In Pakistan, disabled children are often excluded from society and figure among the country’s poorest. Current figures estimate that there are over five million disabled people in Pakistan; of which only 14% are gainfully employed. The others depend on financial support from their families. The situation for disabled children is desperate – approx. 96% of children with disabilities do not attend school.

Tearfund Germany works with local partners who train volunteers to work alongside families with handicapped children. They help parents to look after their child and heighten their awareness for their son or daughter’s unique value and potential. The volunteers regularly organise get-togethers for the families where children can play and parents can talk to each other. These meetings are often filled with joy and laughter.
