In the remote Salyan District of Nepal, more than 238,000 people live with the daily realities of hunger, poverty and the impacts of climate change. Children are particularly affected: 54% are malnourished, and many families have enough food for only a few months each year. Droughts, landslides and irregular rainfall repeatedly destroy crops and sources of income.
Together with local partners, AWO International supports projects that strengthen food security, create income opportunities and help communities become more resilient to climate risks. This includes training in climateresilient farming, providing seeds and livestock, and establishing irrigation systems as well as local groups focused on nutrition and climate protection. The aim is to improve people’s livelihoods in the long term and ensure better support for women, children and older people in particular.
