Sudan: Medical Relief and Education for Refugees

The conflict in Darfur between Sudan’s government and the tribes of Darfur started in 2003. Since then, several thousands of people have lost their lives due to the conflict. Thousands more are in need of medical support and an improvement to the hygiene situation.

In the last few months the situation in Darfur has deteriorated further. In July the UN Secretary-General pushed the security level up to phase IV, reducing the number of international workers in the area. 

Project description: Partner Aid International has been active in North Darfur since 2005, providing aid to refugees and the population affected by the conflict. Our work supports about 155,000 people. We are active in the following areas:

Health:
•    We have mobile clinics providing the people in the villages around El Fasher with medical support
•    We have a hospital in Dar-Salam, to the South of El Fasher.
•    We provide medical aid in refugee camps in Al-Salaam and Dar-Salaam
•    We teach refugees about hygiene and health

Education:
•    We support village communities as they rebuild their schools
•    In cooperation with the community elders, we build schools in refugee camps

More than 2.4 million people have already had to leave their homes to escape the violence. Where possible, PAI wants to provide people with the help and support they need, so that they do not have to seek refuge in camps. At the same time, we seek to help in such a way that their dignity is preserved and their families do not fall apart.
